The big antenna is guyed in
three places to withstand the high winds we get here. The base
loading unit consists of a bottom grounded 80 metre loading coil
tapped for 50 ohm feed from a series choke connected to the coax. On
40 metres a switch introduces a series capacitance at the top of the
coil to offset the inductance of the antenna and the loading coil on
7mhz. This configuration allows the antenna to be tuned for each
frequency with the flick of a switch.
The 20 metre antenna uses a
standard series base loading coil to obtain resonance. Other than
this it is just a short version of the 80 metre antenna, small
enough not to need guying. The satellite dish is for internet
access. |
